This cute little animal has found a place in all our hearts over the last few years and we now enjoy the very successful MeerKat Manor on TV; and of course ‘Comparing the Meerkats’ with Aleksandr Orlov – – – This small mammal, belonging to the mongoose family, is native to parts of South Africa, southwestern Angola, the Namib Desert in Namibia, and Botswana’s Kalahari Desert. ‘Mobs’ or ‘gangs’ of Meerkats are usually made up of around 20 individual family members but larger groups of ‘super families’, of around 50 or more, are not uncommon. This publication takes a look at the fascinating life of the Meerkat, the history of the mammal and its natural habitat, as well as Meerkat anatomy, populations, groups, and long term survival.
